I have two small bathrooms with wainscoating (SP?) and I'd like to redo them. I'd like to leave the wainscoating – I plan on painting that white- but how should I paint the walls? Any ideas? I'm open to all colors, but I'd like to make the bathroom seem more open and clean looking.

Pait the biggest wall purple. Leave everything else bright white. This will give the appearence of a larger room, while adding some demention and color. Periwinkle, sage green, and purple go very well together.

Stay away from dark colors in Bathrooms. Benjamin Moore paints have 2 great colors i like to use called Linen White or White dove they accent white wainscoating nice. let your accessories color your room…..

Use a Light Pastel color, one of your favorites. I always like my Bathrooms and Kitchen to look Bright and Light and have that Sunny feel to it.

Sponge painting has always been my favorite kind of paint technique! I tried it on my bathroom walls and I truly love it. I have 2 tone green tiles, light and dark green textures. I sponge painted the walls in 2 light green colors, one being darker than the other. the tiles are light tan. It makes my bathroom look and feel so fresh.

Mirrors or mirrored tiles

I have a very small bathroom. I used a light gray with a nice light border. Gray and white look very clean and airy. I love it.

fresh coat of white or offwhite paint. you could also use a tan or a light yellow, but i would stay away from any loud colors because loud colors will make your bathrooms unappealing

We have a really small bathroom that we painted red – I'd call it Chinese red. Mixed with the white porcelain and stainless steel (light fixture/mirror frame) it looks really nice. we also have black tile w/white grout in the room.

Stick to light, neutral colours for the open feeling that you want – anything too strong will make you feel enclosed. if things then look a bit boring, add little accents of colour with the items that you put in it.

I found that brighter collers made mine look more open

to make it look bigger, use lots of mirrors but not on two opposite walls, otherwise youll get a horrible effect. for pain colour i would suggest a really really light shade of lemon/peach/blue

Okay, so right now I have a one-story ranch style home we are going to be remodeling. It faces the lake and there is going to be a large great room with a lot of windows – OR perhaps doors. I once visited an eight million dollar mansion that had an incredible HUGE sliding glass door system that was nothing like the crappy sliding glass doors I'm used to.

I can't find ANYTHING online except the typical stuff, but I love the idea of a paneless system (nothing to obstruct the view), as well as being able to walk in and outside and completely open up the house so it feels bigger.

I'm in Florida and there will be a big deck outside the great room so it should feel like an extension of the house.

Any suggestions for what doors (or if I have to, windows), would go in this setting is greatly appreciated.

There are many companies that sell sun rooms. The windows walls and doors fit together like a puzzle. They are easy to install. The screens are tear proof and they look great.

Try a Pella window They are middle range in price. And can custom your window to fit your opening and have various styles you can choose from or they can make it just the way you like it.

I would def. go with french doors. They will be great and you can view the lake from inside with out the annoying sliding door to worry about.

I saw pics of this house I am thinking of buying and there is an old toilet and old sink vanity (which is very small). I want to move the toilet 2ft to the left which will make more room for a larger, newer sink vanity. Sure you can. Don't mess with the plumbing, it's too costly. just leave the toilet bowl to where it is now, and if in the process of moving the toilet the toilet bowl will be located outside of the new toilet location, just buy a huge raincoat to cover your whole body when you use your toilet bowl which is now outside your toilet. if the raincoat is too costly, just use a piece of cloth to cover your face.

If you have a crawlspace or basement, it should not be a problem moving the toilet and related piping. You will probably be cutting the main stack to add a sanitary tee for the move. You will also need to add a ventline since the main stack was/is currently serving as the vent.

If you move the toilet you must move the plumbing. Go down stairs and look at he pipeing(if you can). if you move the toilet 24"to the right then the plumbing must go 24"as well.

Can't move it without moving the plumbing too….Sucks but is true….

You will have to move the drain and water line for the toilet!! ( but it may be easier said then done.) if you have access to the toilet plumbing in the basement (bath on first floor) it shouldn't be a problem. if bath is on second floor you may not be able to ,and if you could, it would be a big job ….

I doubt that you can. you are going to have to move the plumbing with it.

A few weeks later I received a call from a cabinet maker, who built the custom cabinets saying he has not been paid for the cabinets that the contractor ordered. They want to come after me for payment even though I had no contract or contact with them only with the contractor. Can they place a lein on my property? Don't they have to go after the contractor who ordered the cabinets?

YES, the subcontractor can place a mechanic's lien.

Generally, any person or company that furnishes material or labor to a construction project (including remodeling of a home) can place a lien. that means contractors, subcontractors, architects, landscapers, etc. the exact requirements and procedures for placing and foreclosing a lien are governed by state statute, and the statutes vary wildly among the 50 states. But, pretty much every state I know of allows subcontractors to place liens, regardless of whether the home owner had a direct contractual relationship with the subcontractor.

I suggest seeking legal advice if this can't be resolved between you, the contractor, and the subcontractor.

This happens a lot in construction and if you don't have a contract with the cabinetmaker nor placed the order yourself you should be ok. Make sure you have proof of paying the contractor however.

There may be specific laws in your area that deal with this, a good place to contact to be sure would be the local BBB for some basic advice.

More than likely the contractor, who he had the contract with has stiffed the cabinet maker and he's going after whoever he can to get his money. It's the contractor's bill, I'm sure you already paid for the cabinets once. Don't pay for them again.

I would suggest that you write a formal letter and post it by registered mail and also fax Smarter Bathrooms explaining exactly what the problems are that you see and give them 10 business days to rectify at their cost. Follow up with a phone call after 3 days to confirm they have received your letter and fax and ask them to confirm in writing when they will commence the work. if they don't give you a firm date I suggest you contact Consumer Affairs and the Building Industry Commission in Victoria. at the very least, contact them anyway and make some inquiries.

One idea would be to glue them around the border of a cabinet or other furniture in the bathroom. You could also think about gluing them to the wall or door.

use them on a picture frame….or make a wreath with them or simply place them in a basket or sand pail

I would find a glass vase, bowl or anything glass and see through. it can be any size according to the space you need to fill. (Such as a tall skinny vase or a short fat bowl etc.) Fill it up with all your shells in there. If you want you can add a few dried flowers here and there. some of your nicer ones you might want to get some beach sand and fill and lay the prettiest shells on top. looks really nice!

you can fill large clear containers with them to put on shelves,
hot glue or liquid nails to plain drawer pulls,

I always thought a bath panel covered in seashells would look good.
you have to stick each 1 individually using clear mastic, it could take a while but the end result could be great.

You can make a wreath and put them on it. If they are large you can use one as a soap dish. Glue them on a picture frame or small mirror. put them in a pretty basket or in a dish with a candle in the center. good luck and have fun!

if you can find an fisherman's net they usually sell them in the craft store ( their made out of rope ) i took the fisherman's net and spread it out over the bathroom wall and tacked it up and put the seashells in the holes to hold them in. it looks pretty and not everyone has it…

then i bought a whole bunch of little shells and a glass vase and some floating candles, put the shells in the vase fill it up with water and then the candle.. light it up and it looks nice also

Get a small basket and fill it with shells and set that out either on top of the toilet tank or on the vanity if there's room, or on a shelf if you have one. make a tissue box cover and glue shells to that. Perhaps glue them to your toilet brush holder if you have one. Glue them to a toothbrush holder if you have one. Glue them to a soap dish. Glue them to your shower curtain rings. make a sea shell collage and hang on the wall. The possibilities are endless.

hot glue them around a mirror or frames or get a glass bowl or large vase put colored sand in it and place some shells over the sand…large shells look good just placed here and there…you can also make a pretty mobile/windchime hang it in front of a window

how about glueing them to a tissue box cover, and around the edge of a mirror

Add a touch of romance by getting small jars or vases..add play sand and shells turn into candle holders. looks cute around a tooth brush holer (glued small shells) (hope this helps) But use youre imagination be creative! You can do many creative things to even glueing around waste baskets etc..

Mosaic the border of a mirror with seashells. There are instructions on the internet for which materials to use…particularly glue that can be used on mirrors as well as the grout to make the mosaic appearance. good luck

Depends how many you have. You could stick them onto lots of things to:
Frame a mirror (stick them onto the mirror frame. Paint them one colour if it would look better)
Cover a vase
Fill a picture frame
Cover a tissue box
cover a photo frame and put a photo in of the place you found them.
Fill a dish and add pot pourri
stick them together with superglue to make a flower head then put them on a stick and into a small vase.
Cover a tiled splashback on the sink (if you have one)
Cover the top of a pedal bin.

I live in a small bachelor apartment unit. I'm thinking of renovating the bathroom for psychological reasons (i.e. I'm slightly insane, but that's another story altogether).

Basically, if I go all out, I'm going to want the floor re-tiled, the entire vanity/cabinet and sink replaced, and the toilet replaced. I'll even want the door replaced. The only parts I'll leave be is the shower stall and mirror/medicine cabinet.
